Labour Party (LP)’s Interim National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, has welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which dismissed a suit filed by former party chairman, Julius Abure, against the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).

In a statement issued yesterday, Usman described the verdict in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1523/2025 as a “profound relief” and a reaffirmation of the Supreme Court’s April 4, 2025 decision, which nullified Abure’s claim to the party’s leadership.
The court struck out Abure’s suit for lack of jurisdiction, citing the binding effect of the apex court’s ruling under Section 287 of the Constitution.
Usman also commended INEC for what she called its “clarity, courage, and institutional integrity,” noting that the Commission, in its sworn affidavit, confirmed that Abure’s tenure, alongside the entire National Executive Committee, expired in June 2024.
According to her, INEC further stated that it neither monitored nor recognised the party convention held in Nnewi on March 27, 2024, describing it as a violation of the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, INEC guidelines, and the Labour Party’s own Constitution.
Usman urged party members to accept the judgment as final and focus on rebuilding the Labour Party into a disciplined, people-centred political movement.
“With this judgment and INEC’s clear stance, it is time to put this distraction behind us and recommit to unity, discipline, and transparent internal democracy”, she said.
